Children from Castor CE Primary School recently visited Castor Lodge Care Home to bury a time capsule and plant a tree to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee year. Residents were delighted to welcome the children from the school council to their garden to join them for refreshments and a planting ceremony.
The children bought poems, letters, drawings and artwork they had been working on to commemorate the jubilee. Residents had time to look at their work which was on display in the care home before it was safely sealed inside the time capsule.
Saihaan from Year 6 was tasked with planting the Oak tree to mark the spot where the time capsule is buried in the garden. The children were keen to tell residents about their work and what they had learned about the Queen’s seventy-year reign. They had written about the role she played in the history of Great Britain and around the world. A letter for the people who find the capsule was also enclosed together with the children’s work.
“Our residents had a lovely morning chatting with the children and hearing about their time at school.” Said Home Manager Natalie White. “We love to welcome children to meet our residents and are keen to build relationships with our local schools and community groups. Creating links with local people of all ages is so important for our resident’s well-being. The children had a great time exploring the garden, chatting with staff and residents, and enjoying our chef’s chocolate brownies.”
